Shahrokh C. Bagheri, DMD, MD, FACS

Dr. Bagheri

Dr. Bagheri received his DMD from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (cum laude) as class marshall and with multiple awards. He completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency and medical degree at Emory University in Atlanta.He subsequently obtained his fellowship training in Cranio-Maxillofacial Trauma and Cosmetic Surgery at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Bagheri has particular interests that include facial cosmetic surgery, orthognathic, trauma, and reconstructive maxillofacial surgery. He is also trained in microneurosurgical repair of peripheral trigeminal nerve injuries, and is one of few surgeons that provides this service. Dr. Bagheri is the current Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Northside Hospital of Atlanta, and serves as a clinical faculty at both the Medical College of Georgia and Emory University, where he is involved in resident education. He has published over 25 articles and multiple book chapters. His recent text book Clinical Review of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a popular text for candidates preparing for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.


Robert A. Bays, DDS

Dr. Bays graduated from West Virginia University, School of Dentistry and completed his residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1973. His academic affiliations include The University of Amsterdam, 1973-1976, University of North Carolina, 1976-1978, Medical College of Georgia, 1978-1986 and served as Professor and Chairman of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Emory University, Atlanta from 1986 to 2003. He has been principle investigator on two major NIH research grants that studied orthognathic surgery. His primary contribution has been the development of principles and techniques that integrate basic temporomandibular function with the surgical correction of dentofacial deformities whether temporomandibular disorders are present or not. He has published widely on the subjects of orthognathic surgery and temporomandibular disorders. Dr. Bays has served on the Advisory Committee of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Consultant for the American Dental Association, Commission on Dental Accreditation and President of the Georgia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.


R. Bryan Bell, MD, DDS, FACS

Dr. Bell is a board-certified surgeon who is trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery. Educated in the European tradition of maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Bell holds a dental degree from Creighton University and a medical degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency was also completed at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He subsequently completed specialized fellowships in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology, as well as Craniomaxillofacial Trauma and Cosmetic Surgery at Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health Center in Portland, Oregon. His clinical interests are focused upon head and neck oncologic (cancer) surgery, orthognathic and reconstructive jaw surgery, facial reconstructive surgery resulting from trauma or tumor ablation, and alveolar bone graft reconstruction in preparation for dental implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation. Currently, Dr. Bell is Attending Surgeon and Co-Director of Resident Education on the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service at Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health Center; Clinical Assistant Professor at Oregon Health & Science University; Affiliate Assistant Professor at the University of Washington; is actively involved in resident and fellow education; and lectures extensively to national and international audiences. Dr. Bell continues conduct original clinical research and has published numerous clinical and scientific articles on subjects of interest related to oral cancer, facial reconstruction, craniomaxillofacial trauma and orthognathic surgery.


Angelo Cuzalina, MD, DDS

Dr. Angelo Cuzalina began his post graduate education at Oklahoma State University on a wrestling scholarship where he graduated with a degree in Physiology. He then obtained a Medical degree from University of Alabama and a Dental Degree from Baylor in Dallas, Texas. He completed an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency followed by a full body cosmetic surgery fellowship where his mentors were former AACS (American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery) presidents. Dr. Cuzalina is board certified by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery in full body cosmetic surgery as well as the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He has performed well over 10,000 cosmetic surgery procedures and runs an AAAHC accredited surgery center that has a full time anesthesia and nursing staff along with overnight courtesy guest suites. Dr. Cuzalina is the program director for an AACS Accredited Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship Program in full body and facial cosmetic surgery. He was elected to the AACS Board of Trustees in 2005, and was Co-Chairman for the 2006 National Cosmetic Surgery Meeting. Dr. Cuzalina has authored several cosmetic surgery book chapters as well as being a frequent guest lecturer for cosmetic surgery courses around the country and abroad. He is currently the treasurer for the AACS and is the program chairman for several AACS live cosmetic surgery workshops each year.

 

Eric J. Dierks, DMD, MD, FACS

Dr.Dierks

Dr. Dierks is a graduate of both the medical and dental schools of the University of Louisville. He completed residency in oral-maxillofacial surgery at the Medical Center of Delaware and residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. He is board-certified in both disciplines. He served on the full-time ENT faculty at UT Southwestern before moving to Portland, Oregon to join the Head and Neck Surgical Associates where he practices head and neck oncologic surgery as well as oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is an Affiliate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Oregon Health and Science University and actively participates in their OMS residency program. Since 1992, he has directed the Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery based at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. He has lectured and performed surgery internationally and has published 98 journal articles and book chapters on his various areas of interest.


M. Franklin Dolwick, DMD, PhD 

Dr. Dolwick

Dr. Dolwick is a world-renowned Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon specializing in the surgical treatment of temporomandibular disorders. He was a pioneer in the development of TMJ arthrography and surgical procedures for the treatment of TMJ internal derangement. Dr. Dolwick has served on several TMJ study committees for the American Dental Association, National Institutes for Dental Research and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Dolwick has published over 60 papers and co-authored four books. Dr. Dolwick received his DMD from the University of Kentucky and his PhD and certification in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Medical College of Virginia. He currently serves as Chairman and Professor for the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Florida College of Dentistry. Prior to being the Chairman, he served as the Director of Residency Education and Associate Chairman of the department. He also serves as a member of the Craniofacial Cleft-Palate Team with the College of Dentistry. He is board-certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a member of the appropriate professional organizations. In 1993, he received the Research Recognition Award from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation for his research on temporomandibular disorders. Currently his research interest is temporomandibular joint arthrocentesis and lavage for the treatment of temporomandibular joint internal derangement.


Raymond J. Fonseca, DMD

Dr. Fonseca is currently in private practice in Asheville, North Carolina. He received his D.M.D. degree from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in 1973 and completed an oral surgery residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas in 1976. He received his certification from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1978. Following his postgraduate training, he held the position of Assistant Professor and Director of Graduate Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1980, Dr. Fonseca joined the faculty of the University of Iowa as Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Education in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He was Chairman and Professor of Oral Medicine, Pathology and Surgery at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry from 1982 to 1989. From 1989 through 2003, Dr. Fonseca was the Dean of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He is presently a Clinical Professor of the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Fonseca has published 62 articles, 15 book chapters, 27 abstracts and 8 major books. He is the editor of the three-volume text Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery published in July 2008. The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons awarded him the Outstanding Educator Award, the Distinguished Researcher Award and the Gies Award.


Husain Ali Khan, DMD, MD

Dr. Khan grew up in Toronto, Canada. His undergraduate education began at the University of Toronto. He received his DMD degree from University of Kentucky School of Dentistry and received his Medical degree from University of Miami. His internship and residency in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery was completed at the University of Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He also served residency in general surgery at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital.  Dr. Khan has received extensive training in facial cosmetic surgery from leaders in the facial plastic surgery and general plastic surgery specialties. He is also trained to perform microsurgical hair transplantation. His clinical interests also include trauma, orthognathic, and reconstructive surgery. He has presented articles at the regional and national level.


Robert E. Marx, DDS

Dr. Marx

Dr. Marx is Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He is well known as an educator, researcher, and innovative surgeon. He has pioneered new concepts and treatments for pathologies of the oral and maxillofacial area as well as new techniques in reconstructive surgery. His many prestigious awards, including the Harry S. Archer Award, the William J. Giles Award, the Paul Bert Award, and the Donald B. Osbon Award, attest to his dedication and commitment to the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. His recent textbook “Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. A Rationale for Diagnosis and Treatment” has also won the American Medical Writers Associations Prestigious Book of the year Award and his most recent textbook “Platelet Rich Plasma: Dental and Craniofacial Applications” has just been released.


Martin B. Steed, DDS

Dr. Steed graduated from the University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1997 and then completed an Oral Medicine residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1997 to 1999. He completed his training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 2004 and was appointed to the full time faculty at Emory as an Assistant Professor that same year. He is currently Assistant Professor and the Residency Program Director within the Department of Surgery, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Emory University.



Mark R. Stevens, DDS

Dr. Stevens

Dr. Stevens is Professor and Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia. He received his DDS from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, and his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Certificate from Wilford Hall Medical Center. He has held full time faculty appointments at the University of Miami, School of Medicine for 15 years serving as Assistant Chief, Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Miami, School of Medicine. Dr. Stevens has been at MCG since 2006 and he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. He is a Board examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Stevens is the author of more than 30 scientific articles, books and chapters.
